The visual language - In the words of Zamenhof

I am Zamenhof, Ludwik Eliezer Zamenhof, and I am the main character and I lead the film "Days of His Life, Days of Our Lives." A proxy, an actor that looks very much like me, is portraying me. The visuals of the film refer to the global ecological crisis that will probably lead the entire life on Earth, especially humankind, to an apocalyptic reality: warming and pollution of the atmosphere, pollution of the oceans and land, deforestation and over-exploitation of resources with the inevitable result of the extinction of many species. The visualization is implied, it is in the background, without special emphasis it is to be incorporated in a subtle, unnoticed, manner.

The documentary draws on the style of such as CBS "60 Minutes". I, Zamenhof, am the researcher and interviewer who lead the film. An “investigative journalism” program operates according to a certain format: “A portrait of a Celebrity" (how I struggled to improve the world from the beginning of my career and what choices, good or bad, I made in my life); "An investigation of a meaningful phenomenon" (The invention of Esperanto was, undoubtedly, a significant phenomenon in many people's lives); “Exposition of a dramatic current event story" (What could be more dramatic than the loss of life on Earth as a result of the ecological crisis).

As in any television program there will be commercials that, in this case, will be connected to the film’s subject matter. The program also includes a debate section in which two commentators take contradictory positions. Overall, this format allows for the possibility of a busy, winding, sensational, cynical, wild and witty film.

The film combines two visual worlds, corresponding to the context, the relevant period: The old-analog world that I lived in, is represented in black and white animation and is slow and solid. The modern-digital world is represented by the Internet and social networks and is dynamic, bouncy, fragmented, colorful and glamorous. In this manner, the film reflects the connection between technology and the period it represents, and it does so in action, in content and in the viewing experience. As stated, in both worlds, past and present, there is a visual expression, implied, of the damage that man imposes on the earth. The film moves between times, between worlds, from a wild, innocent and conscious perspective.

The film is produced, both in practice and as an ideological approach, through the Internet, which integrates fine with my cosmopolitan approach which motivated me to develop Esperanto in the first place: It is all about breaking conventions, independent thinking, love of man and the world.

The internet, Like Esperanto, grants the ability to communicate at all times, with the whole world, in any language. Your present world is infinitely better than the one I came from. In my opinion, the Internet is the perfect medium for representing my Esperanto: The language and the network have the same purpose: connecting people. And what is better for us than to connect human beings and bring them to do a real worthwhile deed in order to save the Earth, our one and only home?

Artists who combine art and computer/internet are employed as widely as possible. Here we can see a sample of the possibilities inherent in combining this approach:

About The Trailer (click here:  Days Of His Life, Days Of Our Lives):

In our trailer we entertained, in a mockumentary style, the idea that Europe, the one after the Brexit, choses Esperanto as the language of the European Union. True, it has not happened yet. Nevertheless, the idea is that, in addition to the mother tongues, there will be an easy to learn bridging-language accessible to all, which can contribute to human brotherhood and cooperation to save the planet.
