Natural selection is about the survival of the fittest, but it is not perfect. How can we fix it?
Episode 8
"Bad Sign"
Synopsis
Cancer is a dreaded disease, but in fact, it is a miracle of evolution.
Cancer cells divide faster and more efficiently than non-cancer cells, and therefore have the upper hand.
This process of “micro-evolution” teaches us the fragility of the balance between cell-death vs. cell-reproduction, and how that balance can be easily violated leading to the development of tumors. In this episode, we investigate how our understanding of cancer in humans and other species is helping us to understand how nature works, including natural selection.
New and radical ideas on how to treat cancer are promising, but will we ever have an anti-cancer vaccine?
